My son, whom I refer to as "Bug" here on the blog, is just obsessed with all things Angry Birds.
When I shared this creation I tweeted out the post as I normally do only this time I tagged the official Angry Birds Twitter feed along with it. I thought it would be cool to share it with the people at Rovio, but I never imagined it would be so well received!
Since posting Bug's creation I have had many, many visitors to my blog from Finland - kiitos!
Bug has become pretty popular with the people from Rovio, so much so that I was contacted by someone in their PR department and told they would like to send him something special for the launch of Angry Birds Space, which is officially March 22, 2012.
After a few emails back and forth and some direct messaging on Twitter I can really only say I am truly amazed at the kindness of the people from Rovio. I didn't know what to expect when they said they were going to send him something special, but they told me that Bug would be the first person in the world to receive whatever it is. The first! My kid! Wow! Thanks, Rovio!
So we tracked the package and today was the day. We excitedly waited for it to arrive.
Bug drew pictures all morning of Angry Birds and Finland and what he imagined it looks like at the Rovio offices. He drew birds in space, birds in packages, birds on planes, birds at the beach - he's drawn more birds today than I've ever seen him draw.
And then it arrived.
I present to you now a story, in both pictures and words, of one little boy who really loves Angry Birds...
It all started with a game that he plays every day without fail and that led to toys and pajamas and the Knock on Wood game where he can build his own courses...
There are t-shirts and posters and sometimes he lines up the birds to stare down that pig, I never know where I'll find them...
But nothing for Bug could ever compare to the extreme coolness of getting his very own package, all the way from Finland, from the people at Rovio...
That's one happy kid! So we sat down and opened the box...
Four shirts! Rovio, making him smile that much made me cry mommy tears of joy :)
The National Geographic Angry Birds Space book - it's the official companion book to the game. He loves it! The book is not only filled with fun Angry Birds stuff, but it is educational too! Rovio, this mom thanks you so much for adding in such educational goodness. Learning about space while having fun is just excellent!
Angry Birds Space special edition bandages... LOVE!!! Kids get hurt, they want band-aids. This is perfect! Thank you!
The Ice Bird - Oh my goodness, when Bug saw this he just lit up all over. He was just reading about the Ice Bird today on The Daily.
And stickers... So many stickers! He loves it all!
That smile on his face is priceless. I am sincerely grateful to the people at Rovio for taking the time to notice my son. He's just a young boy who loves a game, who happens to obsess a bit (as do many kids with High Functioning Autism/Asperger Syndrome) and who wants all the people at Rovio to know just how much he appreciates what you've done for him...
From Bug and from me, thank you, Rovio. Thank you for taking the time to care.
Thank you for being so kind. Thank you for creating such a fun game and for creating it in a way where it can be used to help educate kids. Your representatives, your company, all of you will always have a special place in our hearts. This was beyond anything we ever expected and we are truly grateful.

I'm crying Mommy tears of joy with and for you and Bug. What an amazing story and I can't think of anyone better for it to happen to! I am SO happy for you and Bug right now! Let me be the first to chime in my thanks with you to Rovio, what an amazing company! Way to go Rovio!!

The Rovio people are awesome...and the author of Angry Birds Space is as good as they come. So glad Bug loved his box of goodness!

ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! I am Bird Leader from AngryBirdsNest.com (ABN). I started ABN because my son and I got addicted to Angry Birds and I wanted to help others with the game, including us parents. I totally get this and am stoked for you guys. I had the privilege of meeting some of the Rovio team last week at GDC and they truly are an amazing group. Good games, great people, good times. Best of luck and enjoy all the goodies.
ReplyDeleteGranda Paul says AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteAs a Finnish mom of an autistic son I feel proud - and very happy for you :-) These 'obsessions' or strong interests can be incredibly useful as motivators to learn all kinds of neat things. I don't know where we'd be without those...
